World Cup Group H - Spain Suffers a Scare But Advances to the Last 16 (Spain 3 - Tunisia 1)

For large parts of the first half, my ISP and computer conspired to deny me viewing pleasure of this game. For some inexplicable reason either the ISP connection failed (fuck Singnet) or the computer decided to hang at the most inappropriate time.

At least I caught the Tunisian goal scored by Mnari. It was a well taken goal on a second bite of the cherry after Casillas had made a good save from his first effort. Couldn't catch the rest of the action until the second half due to the problems mentioned above.

In the second half, I had the feeling that Tunisia was going to pull off one of the biggest upsets in this tournament. It was too early for Spain to screw up, but considering their record in major competitions, it wasn't that hard to imagine.

But that was not to be. In a span of 4 mins midway thru the second half, Spain turned the tables around with goals from Raul and Torres. Torres went on to score a penalty to bring his total tally in the competition after 2 games to 3, making him the outright top scorer so far in the tournament.

Spain has confirmed it's place in the last 16. Chances are coach Luis Aragones will be tinkering with the squad in the next game to give some of the other members of the squad a chance to perform and soak in the experience of playing in the World Cup. Or at least that was what was reported in the press.
