World Cup Group A - Ecuador Cruises to the Second Round (Ecuador 3 - Costa Rica 0)

I didn't pay much attention to the game after Ecuador went into the lead in the first half. From what I did see, Costa Rica was pretty much toothless. Most of the attacking play came from Ecuador.

In the second half, Costa Rica probably knew that they had to throw everything forward or they would be going home together with the Poles. They made a conserted effort to make a game out of it, but Delgardo's brilliant goal effectively ended all hopes. To add insult to injury, Ecuador scored a third in the dying minutes of the game to seal a comprehensive victory.

It was a sad end for the Costa Ricans who showed so much endeavor and strength against Germany in the previous game. They were not able to lift themselves from that defeat.

Ecuador now meets the other co-leaders in the group Germany for the rights to be outright Group A winners.
