Piss Poor United Loses

Liverpool 2 - Manchester United 1
Scorers
Liverpool: Brown (26 og), Babel (76)
Manchester United: Tevez (3)

Team: Van der Sar, Rio, Vidic, Brown, Evra, Scholes (Hargreaves 66), Anderson (Nani 78), Carrick (Giggs 45), Rooney, Tevez, Berbatov

Awful doesn't even come close to describing our play today. It was absolutely disgusting the way we fell apart under the slightest pressure from Liverpool. We showed no passion and no pride. They players should be ashamed of themselves for even donning the jersey today. Every single one of them should take a good long look at the mirror.

The day started with a bang with new boy Berbatov providing an inch perfect cut back for Tevez to power United into the lead with less than 3 minutes on the game clock. We were controlling the midfield and giving Liverpool fits. For a good 20 or so minutes, we were the better and more confident team on the pitch. We missed a couple of good chances to increase the lead, then it all fell apart as we got too comfortable with the lead.

It didn't help that Edwin Van der Sar decided to flap at a loose ball which was Wes Brown's to clear. It was a moment of ludicrous defending on the part of our keeper and all he could do was to palm the ball onto a surprised Brown. The ball ended in the back of his own net off Brown.

From then on it all crumbled. We lost possession easily, we stopped fighting for the ball and everyone's nerves were on the edge. It allowed Liverpool the room and space to come forward and create chances, although it needs to be said that Liverpool never really looked like scoring.

A second moment of madness allowed Liverpool a come-from-behind victory. This time Giggs tried to be too clever with Mascherano and lost possession in his own penalty area. The loose ball fell to Kuyt who squared it to Babel for Liverpool's second.

What made it so bad was that we didn't react to going behind. Everyone was playing scared and Liverpool could and really should have added a couple more to compound our misery.

In all my life watching United play, this was one of the worst displays I've seen. Tactically we were poor, playing without wings and concentrating too much in the middle. But that was not the reason for our demise, it was our distinct lack of pride and fighting spirit that did us in. We just didn't want to play today. It was downright shameful.

I'd be damn disappointed if Ferguson is not pissed at the way we played today. There'd better be more than a few smashed teapots in the Liverpool locker room.

To add to our woes, Vidic was sent off, meaning we'd be missing him for next week's showdown with Chelsea.

I thought I'd never say this, but we desperately need Ronaldo back. It's as if the team is just trying not to lose games until he returns.

You are right about them not having pride. This is as shameful as it gets. All 3 of our midfielders were replaced; a good indication of how poor we were in that area.

At least Chelsea has the same problem with terry seeing red today.

Ronaldo is not the reason we lost. Fergie is the reason we lost. he has no tactical awareness. that was queiroz's role in the team, he was the tactical mastermind, we desperately need him back, lets hope portugal sack him, he was the perfect partner for fergie. fergie gets the best out of his players creatively and enhances their potential, but with all of that you need good tactical awareness<<< something queiroz was superb at. it's no good appointing an englishman as our assistant, english football has no tactical awareness whatsoever, that's why we need our old no.2 back to bring his technical skills to the team! oh well the bin dippers needed to beat us some time, good fing its at the start of the season. as much as i know ur going to hate me for saying this...michael carrick is one of our best players. just look at how he brings stability to our midfield, he went off injured against the geordies and we lost a dimension, we were playing with such flair and vigour until he went off again, i hope u can see his input to the squad is one which is needed!

You're right, Ronaldo's not the reason we lost. One of the reasons perhaps, but definitely not a significant one. Neither was Ferguson's tactical naivety entirely to blame either. The main reason we lost was that the players lost the hunger.

Ferguson used to be a good motivator. He may still be, but from our performances this season, we're severely lacking in that department. That's why it's so important to bring in new players every season, to have a set of players hungry enough to push those around them. I have my doubts that Berbatov is that kind of player, with his reputation of being a locker-room cancer.

I'm still undecided if I want Queiroz back. Tactically, he's better than what we have at the moment and a good complement to Ferguson (something that i'd admit grudgingly). The problem with him is that he wants to eventually be the no. 1 guy and I'm absolutely dead set against that. He's shown nothing when he was managing Real Madrid, and is once again showing nothing with Portugal. It's just a matter of time before he gets sacked from that post.

I'm going to agree with you wholeheartedly that Carrick is the best player we have in midfield. Anderson is adjusting to a second season after a great one, and the in the EPL, that's always a difficult act to follow. Hargreaves is the new tissueboy (a reputation he's brought over from BM) and Scholes is declining so rapidly it's just painful to watch. The youngsters are too young.

On the other hand, if Carrick is the best we have to offer, then damn.....we're pretty screwed. ;o)

Spectre...i'm gonna start a michael carrick apreciation club and i expect u to join! lool nah im jus kiddin, but yeah u r rite about losing the hunger. it was painful to watch, we gave them so much space, no1 was bothered to close them down. and about berba's sulking...i'm sure fergie wouldn't let him get away with it. did u notice how dim-witted his gameplan was? when tevez was on the left, he was swtiching with berbatov, leaving berba on the left and tevez up front. why would u not do that but with tevez and rooney? let them two swap, i didnt see the point in putting a striker out wide-ish. and tbh i dont think we should have played him from the start. he has not played all season, he had one training session and by having him on the bench, it would have given us another option. instead, we played him but we had the same problem as before...no1 to come off the bench to make an impact. yeah u r rite about scholesy, i think we need to do what chelsea did with makalele, preserve him for big games only. anderson was playing brilliantly down the left, i don't know why he would bring on giggs and not fletcher...it may sound stupid, but imo fletcher is 1 of our best players when it comes to big games. he just seems to be a completely different player, he seems to control the game. he did so against roma when we beat them 7-1, even agenst milan wen we beat them 3-2. he bossed arsenal around last season too. but that performance just goes to show we needed to sign a winger. Nani is a player who, no matter how hard i try, i just can not like him. he rolls around on da floor every time he get's tackled - that's not what united are about. may i also take this opportunity to laugh at man shitty! they thought they could run riot because they have the money! what a joke!
